New man from Iberia convicted of spreading child pornography – picayune item

LAFAYETTE, La. – Acting United States Lawyer Alexander C. Van Hook announced that Spencer Matthieu Legendre, 23, from New Iberia, Louisiana, was sentenced by US District Judge Michael J. Juneau to 72 months in prison, followed by 10 years on probation, for distributing child pornography charges. Legendre was also ordered to pay $ 15,000 in compensation.

According to information presented to the court, an undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent engaged in a secret conversation with a Kik group referring to young girls. The undercover agent observed the username “legend_re”, which was later identified as the defendant, Spencer Matthew Legendre, after posting images of prepubescent child pornography from the Kik account to the internet.

A search warrant was executed on February 27, 2020 at Legendre’s home and he was questioned by law enforcement officers. Legendre confessed to downloading child pornography and admitted to distributing child pornography using his Kik account. Additionally, law enforcement officers seized Legendre’s cell phone and found numerous images of prepubescent child pornography on the phone. A forensic examination of the phone revealed that Legendre had disseminated child pornography on February 18, 2020.

The FBI investigated the case and US Assistant Prosecutor J. Luke Walker pursued the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative of the United States Department of Justice to address the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
