FPM hails Arab support for Lebanon at Jeddah summit — Naharnet
The Free Patriotic Movement welcomed, in a press release, the support of the six Arab States of the Gulf, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq in Lebanon.
In a joint statement issued after a summit in Jeddah, the leaders of the nine countries expressed their support for Lebanon’s “sovereignty, security and stability”.
The FPM considered that Lebanon could not benefit from any support without implementing the necessary reforms. “In order to stop the collapse, we need political will to implement a comprehensive reform program,” FPM said.
The statement added that Lebanon’s “sovereignty, security and stability” reflect the PLC’s position regarding Lebanon’s right to extract its oil and gas resources and the repatriation of Syrian refugees.
“We are keen to maintain the best relations with Arab countries, based on openness, cooperation and mutual respect,” FPM said.
The statement called for Lebanon’s neutralization of regional conflicts. He expressed FPM’s hope for a comprehensive dialogue in the region, instead of “violence, wars and sanctions, which have brought only harm and destruction.”
“We hope that this summit will lead to the conclusion of the nuclear agreement and a real rapprochement between Iran and the Gulf states, and that it will bring Syria back into the Arab League,” the statement said.
