Bechtel steps up support for education to celebrate 70 years in the UK

“Bechtel has been a valued partner of the IET for nearly a decade, including our founding sponsor for the FIRST® LEGO® League,” said Sir Julien Young, President of the EIT. “This year’s additional donation will allow us to support even more young people in their academic or apprenticeship path towards engineering. We thank Bechtel for their continued support of the next generation as they each pursue their dreams.

“Engineering is a fulfilling career that helps us meet some of the world’s greatest challenges, including diversifying our energy supply and moving towards net zero emissions. We need people from a variety of backgrounds to help us find the best solutions,” said John WilliamsBechtel’s UK and Ireland general director. “We hope this support will remove some of the barriers that talented individuals may face in gaining the necessary qualifications to join our industry.”

Bechtel has supported the EIT since 2013, including as a founding supporter of the EIT FIRST® LEGO® League competition that enables young people aged 4-16 to develop STEM skills through hands-on learning. Some 100,000 children took part in the UK scheme and more than 15,500 children took part in the 2020-21 competition. Bechtel also supports FIRST® programs in Australia, Chile, and the United States.
